It is not about anger. "Upset" means overturned, the way a table gets upset when someone flips it. In Matthew 21, Jesus walked into the temple and turned over the tables of people who had gotten comfortable inside an arrangement that should never have been there. Some beliefs need that. Not because they are offensive, but because they were never examined.

Gathering matters. Hebrews 10:25 tells believers not to forsake meeting together, and that instruction still stands. But the building is not where God lives, and it was never meant to be the only place you learn about Him. Truth is, a person can sit in a service every week and never open the text for himself. Go, and study on your own too. One does not replace the other.

Matthew 7:1 gets quoted far more than it gets read. Keep going to verse 5 and Jesus finishes the thought: take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's. He is not banning discernment. He is banning hypocrisy, which is correcting someone from a place you have never examined in yourself.

Ask four questions before you apply anything. Who wrote it? Who received it? What was happening around them when it was written? And what did it mean to them first? A promise made to a nation in a specific moment is not automatically a promise made to you this morning. Start there and most of the confusion clears on its own.
